Marriage by a Judge

Marriage Licenses

Please contact the Peoria County Clerk’s Office at 309-672-6059. They are located at the Peoria County Courthouse at 324 Main Street, Room 101, or visit their Marriage License information web-page for more information and requirements on obtaining a marriage license.

Waiting Period

By state law, marriage licenses must be obtained at least one day prior to the marriage. In extraordinary circumstances, this waiting period can be waived. Contact the Circuit Clerk’s Office at 309-672-6984 for more information.

Fees

The fee for a marriage license is $75 which must be paid for with cash, check (check must include your Driver’s License Number and State where issued, if not Illinois, and your phone number), debit card or a Master Card, Discovery or American Express credit card. There is a $2.50 charge for debit card usage. Credit card transactions up to $50 will be charged a $2.50 fee. Additional fees apply to credit card transactions above $50. After your marriage, certified copies of your marriage license may be purchased. The first certified copy is $16 and additional copies are $7 each.

Judge Services

Judges will perform ceremonies in the Courthouse or via Zoom. Appointments are necessary. If you would like a judge to perform the marriage, go to the Peoria County Circuit Clerk’s Office where you will pay a marriage ceremony fee of $10.00. The Peoria County Circuit Clerk’s office is located in the lower level of the Courthouse, Room G22.
